Fall Sight Word Book

Oct 8, 2011

Sight words are words that appear frequently in print, but they are either difficult to sound out, or don't follow the rules. New readers need to develop a “bank” of these sight words, so they can read them quickly, without having to pause to figure them out. I love making sight word books for my girls using everyday pictures. They read these books more than any other books on our bookshelves because they have pictures of them in it (I still need to print out the picture going on the cover).

This is the cover of our latest 8x8 sight word book (I'll post the rest of the pages once I finish the book). I'm going to focus on just a few sight words for this book (I, see, the, at, and look).  Sample sentences:
I see the apple tree.
Look at the pumpkins.
I see the corn.
Look at the leaves.
etc...
Studies have shown that children retain more from a sight word book that is 8 pages long. If it is any longer, children tend to lose interest and don't remember the sight words.
So give one a try and let me know how it turns out. They make awesome gifts too!
Items used:
White gel pen
Random paper from my stash
Peachy Keen Stamps (wide eyed kid face assortment, everyday character faces)
Cricut (Simply Charmed, Platin School Book, Designer's Calendar)

Cricutless Witch

Oct 6, 2011

It's Design Team Day over at Inking It Up Crazy. We were asked to make a "Cricutless" project. I got this cute image from Disguised as a Grown-Up. Marlene often gives away an image for free (for 24 hours). I try to go to her blog daily for a little laugh and check out her creations. The sentiment is from Scrapbookaholic by Abby's "Dilo En Español".

And YES!!! I used my awesome $2 Crayola Colored Pencils to color in the little girl.
I know I need to upgrade... but I'm crafting on a budget here =D

Items Used:
My Creative Time - Oval Die
Charcoal twine - The Twinery
Provo Craft - Cuttlebug embossing folder
Paper, Ribbon, Eyelets, and Bling - Random from my stash
Crayola Colored Pencils
Bottle cap
