Fall Sight Word Book

Oct 8, 2011

Sight words are words that appear frequently in print, but they are either difficult to sound out, or don't follow the rules. New readers need to develop a “bank” of these sight words, so they can read them quickly, without having to pause to figure them out. I love making sight word books for my girls using everyday pictures. They read these books more than any other books on our bookshelves because they have pictures of them in it (I still need to print out the picture going on the cover).

This is the cover of our latest 8x8 sight word book (I'll post the rest of the pages once I finish the book). I'm going to focus on just a few sight words for this book (I, see, the, at, and look).  Sample sentences:
I see the apple tree.
Look at the pumpkins.
I see the corn.
Look at the leaves.
etc...
Studies have shown that children retain more from a sight word book that is 8 pages long. If it is any longer, children tend to lose interest and don't remember the sight words.
So give one a try and let me know how it turns out. They make awesome gifts too!
Items used:
White gel pen
Random paper from my stash
Peachy Keen Stamps (wide eyed kid face assortment, everyday character faces)
Cricut (Simply Charmed, Platin School Book, Designer's Calendar)

And I borrowed the boa's from my daughters' dress-up clothes =D

Rockin' Witch

Sep 15, 2011

It's Design Team Day over at Inking It Up Crazy. We were asked to make a project with our least used cartridge. My least used... or make that never used cartridge is Rock Princess. I've had it for over a year but I've never used it because it wouldn't link up with my Gypsy. Provo Craft just sent me a replacement so I thought this was the perfect time to use it.

Sep 8, 2011

Here's our adorable little Roxy girl. She's 6 years old and acts like a human. I know I'm to blame... I've spoiled her rotten. My hubby calls her our Miniature German Shepherd (and people always believe him). She's really a Chiwawa mix.

I made her a new food and water bowl.
Got the bowls for $1 at Big Lots.

It's design time at Inking It Up Crazy. We were asked to make a home decor project (preferably out of vinyl). I've only done a few vinyl projects... and they're not that difficult. Transfer tape is a necessity (if it's a small area... masking tape works great too).

Why don't you give it a try??? Go ahead and link up your home decor project over at Inking It Up Crazy.

Items Used:
Bowls (Big Lots $1)
Black Vinyl
Paper Pups Cricut Cartrdige
Transfer tape and masking tape

It's about 107 degrees here in sunny southern California and all I can think about are all the fun fall projects that I can't wait to make ;)

Bug a Boo Stamps - Bobblehead Halloween Frank
Martha Stewart - Drippy Goo Punch

Feliz dia de los Abuelitos

Are you ready for a little sneak peak???
I'm on Scrapbookaholic by Abby's design team for her new line of stamps, "Dilo en Espanol."

My in-laws are primarily Spanish speakers and I LOVE... LOVE... LOVE... all the different sentiments and images that Scrapbookaholic by Abby has designed. The stamp line is not yet open to the public... but stay tuned... I'll have more sneak peaks and info for you as the month goes on.
My girls miss their grandparents so much! They've got three sets of grandparents and they all live between 7-14 hours away. In fact... my mom and step dad are about to take on a huge adventure and move to China for a whole year :O  I don't know if I'll be able to handle it. I call my mom often (daily... okay... okay... usually more than once a day). China has a good 15 hour difference from California so Skype and Facebook will be the best resources for our family.

BTW... I know I've been playing out my Twinkle Toes Cart lately... but I can't help it!!! These two look EXACTLY like my baby girls =) Aren't they just adorable???

Items used:
Scrapbookaholic by Abby's line of stamps, "Dilo en Espanol - Que Siga La Fiesta"
My Creative Time's - Scalloped & Stiched Circle Die
Peachy Keen Stamps - Princess Face Assortment
Paper, buttons, and ribbon from my stash
Twinkle Toes Cricut Cartridge
Paper Dolls for Everyday

I'm entering this card into:
Celebrate the Occasion's - Challenge #29 grandparent's day
Cricut 360's - challenge #10 grandparents
Party Time Tuesdays - #32 grandparents day challenge
